Proudest moment

Graphics Delivery for the 1992 Olympic Games, Barcelona

Focused on Ecosystems by Design. I seek to excite and enlist product teams aspiring for success in the digital world. My tools combine product design and ecosystem thinking and the work reflects an enduring commitment to building network effects. In a technology world, often best characterized as commoditized, I believe that design is the most powerful strategic tool for making products desirable. It has been an ever renewing journey with good outcomes – and some that could have been better. While clients and curiosity have often taken me in new directions, my proudest moments are when my products help enrich the life of the greatest product of all times – a human. The examples that follow are varied but you will notice a continuing theme. Thank you for stopping by.

It’s all about the Ecosystem

It’s all about the Ecosystem

Ecosystems are transforming the way we communicate, work and play. A product can be designed to enable an ecosystem of adjacent, complementary offerings around it. That changes how the product is experienced, and its basis of competition.

Intent based Experiences deliver relevance

Intent based Experiences deliver relevance

“Would you rather interact with an interface, or have a conversation? It’s time to break experiences free from user interfaces, because the interface is only a necessary evil. An alternate design metaphor for the everything-is-connected world is that of a Conversation. It promotes a human-like exchange with an intelligent fabric that knows the user, their preferences and their temporal context. It uses that dynamic knowledge to reason and infer their intent and delivers actionable relevance.”

Experience Ecosystem

Currently designing an open platform for Learning that interoperates with any content source and presents it through a constrained / enclosed experience. This is becoming possible by enlisting and collaborating with an all-star team. Together, we are bringing the future to those that matter most, via a platform that delivers undeniable learner outcomes at software speeds.

Over-the-top Experiences

Everyware over-the-top Platform for Apps

With intents as a primary unit of exchange, user experiences can transverse boundaries seamlessly (across contexts, apps & devices) and deliver temporal relevance. Experience is orchestrated to get things done, presenting the one most relevant information object and the one most relevant action on it, without requiring explicit integration of apps and services.

Driving Change

Cars remain a local island of computing tempting drivers to use their phones while driving. A safe and connected in-car experience could impact a Billion people everyday and that made me want to do my 3rd start-up — Carigami – the art of incarnating experiences for car. Given the small connected world it is, I ended up joining hands with Cloudcar as our vision was aligned. Together, we re-ified the car a first-class citizen of the connected world.

Movie Recommendation Engine

Screenshot of JRE in action

What are you in the mood for?

Imagine sitting on your couch, in front of your TV and wondering which movie to watch? If you know the movie you want to watch, you could simply search for it. But if you didn’t know which one, it could be a challenge sifting through pages of movies sorted by genre, artist or title.

Welcome to the Movie Recommendation engine — it provides a Mood widget to help discover movies that will match your mood. As you play with the sliders on the widget, it recommends matching movies using prescriptive vectors that partition the movie space along emotions.

ReallyMe

Really Me

my social address book

Really Me unifies relationships from diverse services such as Phonebook, Facebook, Gmail, Skype, LinkedIn and Enterprise directories. It uses semantics to de-dupe our social graph, and unifies our conversations across our apps and services.

It remains aware of our digital life streams — social media, calendar, apps and connected devices, distilling them to deliver people, places and things that are contextually relevant in our Here and Now.

I played the role of translating the vision of a unified socio-semantic graph into a concrete product with horizontal capabilities accessible via Graph APIs.

a micro-social network

Simple. Contextual relevance delivered via inter-connected apps. Family Hub is a micro-social network that grows family interactions, creates stored value by harvesting a family’s corpus of people, places and things.

ProMonitor

ProMonitor manages data, applications and workflows across hybrid data centers to provide cross-domain visibility.

I enjoyed bringing in the customer perspective and created the product feature set to map onto a day in the life of an Enterprise stakeholder – the CIO, the data warehouse manager, the data analytics consumer through their decision making touch-points.

Equals: Your Life on Your Terms

Your life on your terms

In the networked information economy, personal relevance is more important than any other dimension of a message. My second startup, Equals, records connections among people and makes sense of them to bubble-up what they might need in their here and now. It enables both communicating parties to assert their choice of channel and privacy, making them co-equals. This Control before transaction is enforced through digital identity contracts that get dynamically updated as we transact with others via our applications.

As founder and product Equalizer, re-imagined a unified world connected via our Digital Identity, taking the work done at XRI TC forward. Created social applications like Party Line growing the Equals graph to 8 million identities. Conceptualized people’s directory, a vertical search end-point to find People.

AmSoft: Product innovation at software speeds

Product innovation at Software Speeds

Founded AmSoft in 1990 with a mission to put India on the Map and the first win came with the Graphics delivery system for the Barcelona Olympics. That first success led to other global product assignments such as the Multimedia Payphone Network for Quebec, and over time, AmSoft established itself as the choice partner offering Productization as a Service.
